Why estimate luggage weight before you pack?

Excess baggage fees at the airport cost far more than planning. Estimating weight while you pack shows where the kilos are coming from — usually shoes, jackets, laptops and toiletries — so you can decide what to wear on the journey and what to leave at home.

Tips to stay under your allowance

  • Wear your heaviest shoes and jacket when you travel.
  • Decant toiletries into small containers.
  • Choose a lighter bag: empty weight counts.
  • Leave room for shopping on the way back.
  • Weigh the packed bag at home with a luggage scale.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cabin baggage limit on Indian domestic flights?

Many Indian airlines allow around 7 kg of cabin baggage on domestic economy fares, and often 15 kg of checked baggage — but limits vary by airline, fare type and route. Always check your ticket; the calculator lets you enter your own allowance.

Does the empty weight of my bag count?

Yes. Airlines weigh the bag as you hand it over, so the suitcase or backpack itself counts. A hard-shell cabin trolley can weigh 2.5 kg or more before you pack anything.

How accurate are the quick-add weights?

They are typical approximate weights to help you plan. Items vary a lot, so for accurate numbers weigh your own things on a kitchen scale or use a luggage scale.
